Dr. Takahiro Tsuchiya is Professor at Kyoto University of Foreign Studies, Japan, specializing in economic security and emerging technology governance. He also serves as Visiting Senior Researcher at the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, The University of Tokyo, and at the Keio Research Institute at SFC, Keio University. He holds a Ph.D. in Security Studies from the National Defense Academy of Japan.
His research focuses on economic security in East Asia, especially the relationship between industrial policy, supply-chain resilience, and strategic trade controls.
Before assuming his current position, he was Associate Professor at Kyoto University of Advanced Science from 2019 to 2025. He previously served as a researcher at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and at the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong. His publications include works on U.S.-China economic security competition, Xi Jinping’s military strategy, and reciprocity in a changing international order.
