Horiyuki Matsumura is a Professor in the Faculty of Economics at Komazawa University. He graduated from the College of International Relations at Ritsumeikan University in 1998, received his MA from the Graduate School of International Relations at Ritsumeikan University in 2000, and completed the required coursework for the doctoral program there in 2003. He received his PhD in International Relations in 2006.
Before joining Komazawa University in 2025, he served as an Institutional Researcher at the International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken), a Lecturer in the Faculty of Informatics at Okayama University of Science, and later as an Associate Professor and then Professor in the Faculty of Management at the same university.
His research focuses on international political economy, the American economy, and economic security. He has published numerous books, edited volumes, and articles in these fields, including U.S.–China Rivalry and Economic Security: The Political Economy of Interdependence, Fragmentation, and Supply Chains (co-edited, Koyo Shobo, 2026) and The Political Economy of U.S.–China Economic Conflict: Great-Power Rivalry and the International Order (co-edited, Koyo Shobo, 2022).
