Charles McClean is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Yale University. He conducts research in comparative politics with a focus on the politics of age and Japan. His work has been published in the British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, Journal of Politics, Nature Medicine, and other venues in political science and public policy. Currently, he is completing a book manuscript, Silver Democracy: Youth Representation in an Aging Japan, which explores the causes and consequences of youth underrepresentation in democracies. Alongside his academic work, he is also an Adjunct Fellow (Non-Resident) with the Japan Chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
