Takahiro (Taka) Kamisuna is Research Associate at the IISS Japan Chair Programme and 3rd API Matsumoto-Samata Fellow. Taka has been working on East and Southeast Asian politics and economic security, researching and writing extensively on nationalism, clean energy and critical minerals. At IISS, his research focuses on geoeconomics of critical minerals, as well as Japanese security and foreign policies in the Indo-Pacific. Prior to his position at IISS, Taka has worked on economic security and Indo-Pacific affairs at the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo and the Centre of Geopolitics at Cambridge, as well as infrastructure business for Asian emerging markets at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. As a graduate student, he has published several peer-reviewed academic articles on East Timorese and Indonesian nationalism, one of which won the Pattana Kitiarsa Prize for Best Graduate Student Paper at the Association of Asian Studies.
