Professor, the University of Tokyo

Graduated from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies (B.A., 1992), and received his degrees from the University of Tokyo (M.A., 1994 and PhD., 2000). He was an Associate Professor at Hokkaido University, then at the University of Tokyo, and assumed the current position in 2015. He was awarded the Japan Scholarship of the Wilson Center in 2009, among other positions at outside institutions and authorities in and out of Japan. His book “Chugoku kindai gaiko no keisei” (The Formation of Modern Chinese Diplomacy), (Nagoya University Press, 2004) was awarded the Suntory Prize for Social Science and Humanities.
