The Japan Forum on International Relations
Public Symposium “The War in Ukraine and European Security” Invitation
The Japan Forum on International Relations
WATANABE Mayu
President
As the war in Ukraine continues over an extended period, Europe’s security environment has entered a phase of profound transformation. Triggered by Russia’s invasion, NATO has expanded its membership, European countries have significantly increased their defense spending, and the strategic posture of the European Union (EU) is being redefined. At the same time, Europe faces a complex set of challenges, including energy security, economic resilience, political fragmentation, and the resurgence of populism.
Against this backdrop, the Japan Forum on International Relations (JFIR) will host a high-level symposium entitled “The War in Ukraine and European Security.” The realities of the war in Ukraine cannot be regarded as distant concerns for Japan and Asia. At this symposium, Ambassadors of the European Union and its member states will be invited to share their perspectives on the evolving European security architecture and its implications for the international order, followed by an in-depth discussion.
As this will be a rare opportunity to hear directly from several key EU ambassadors, we sincerely hope that you will be able to attend.
