Challenges to Territorial Integrity in the Liberal International Order: A Japanese Response
The Japan Forum on International Relations (JFIR) hosted a webinar focusing on territorial integrity in the context of the liberal international order based on the rule of law. Territorial integrity has been threatened by cases including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and China’s assertive behaviors in the East/South China Sea. This webinar discussed the possible countermeasures against the threats to territorial integrity and restoration of the liberal international order with focus on the concept of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
The panelists from Australia, Europe, and Japan had an in-depth discussion on territorial integrity.The panelists were as follows: HOSOYA Yuichi (Professor, Keio University/ Distinguished Research Fellow, JFIR), MASUO Chisako (Professor, Kyushu University), Luis SIMÓN (Director, the Centre for Security, Diplomacy and Strategy (CSDS), VUB), ISHII Yurika (Associate Professor, National Defense Academy), and Thomas WILKINS (Associate Professor, Sydney University).
